Scribble
A private, local-first digital deskpad for Windows — one always-ready surface for typed notes, checklists, pen input, and dropped files, with no account, no cloud, and no internet connection required.
Key Features & Outcomes
- Summon and dismiss with a global hotkey — reopens exactly as you left it
- Captures typed notes, checklists, pen input, pasted screenshots, and dropped files without asking what a thought "is" first
- Fully local — no account, no cloud service, no API key, no internet connection needed
- A local, rules-based organiser suggests groupings without ever rewriting the original notes
The idea
The scattered Notepad files, unsent emails, Teams messages, and sticky notes that pile up during a working day all share one problem: they demand you decide what a thought is before you're allowed to write it down. Scribble removes that demand — capture first, organise later, if at all.
What's inside
A system-tray app for Windows, summoned with a global hotkey and dismissed with Escape, that reopens exactly as it was left. Notes, checklists, pen input, and dropped files land on one continuous surface with automatic timestamps and full-text search. A local rules-based organiser can suggest groupings — actions, decisions, questions, people — but every suggestion is reviewed, and the original notes are never silently rewritten.
Why it matters to me
Built as a native Rust/Tauri app deliberately, not a web wrapper — a genuinely local, private tool for a genuinely private use case: the messy first-draft thinking that happens before anything is ready to go in a real system.
